The term “transport container” is not defined in the transport regulations for dangerous substances. It is commonly used to describe the casing or the transport cask. Experts therefore talk about “approving transport containers” in conjunction with the design authorisation of transport casks that are used to ship radioactive substances. Strictly speaking, however, this involves approving the design of transport casks and not approving individual casings or transport casks. Despite this, the term has become a normal part of the approval procedure for reasons of simplification.
